THE COMPANY - ABOUT QUAESTIO PRODUCTIONS
Quaestio means to question. We make gutsy, heart-full musicals, in which global issues crash with family dynamics. Our mission is to make the world a better place, through radically optimistic stories for audiences of all ages.
The company was established in 2024 by writer and performer Hero Douglas in order to mount our debut musical Mad Cow at the Garlinge Theatre, Canterbury.

Our name is a tribute to Thomas Michael Voss (known as Fossey), an incredible dancer and choreographer - and a friend and mentor to many, including Hero.
Fossey commissioned Hero when she was seventeen to compose the music for his dance show ‘Quaestio’. Heartbreakingly, Fossey passed away shortly after.

OUR COMMITMENT TO
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
At Quaestio, we explore how pressing global issues affect families in their day-to-day lives. The climate crisis was a key theme in our debut musical Mad Cow, which examined the place of animals in the food chain, and it will be central to our latest production, Poorly Planet.
We are committed to creating theatrical productions with the least environmental impact possible. As a new company, we have the good fortune of learning from the theatremakers already doing amazing work to make our sector more sustainable. Using resources such as the Theatre Green Book and Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Green Tools, we are embedding sustainability in our company practices and establishing methods of monitoring our carbon footprint so we can set meaningful goals and fulfil our ambition to be net zero.
As a touring company, our focus is on limiting our impacts in terms of energy, travel and materials, and encouraging an environmentally conscious attitude amongst our partners, collaborators and audiences. All the props and costumes for Mad Cow were borrowed or bought second-hand, and the simplified set was constructed from used materials, borrowed furniture and hay bales. Where possible, our team travelled by train and we arranged a free electric minibus to collect them and audience members from the local station.
Going forward, we will seek to rehearse and present our work in venues that are committed to renewable energy and reducing their impact in terms of water and waste.
